HLTAID015 – Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy

The Advanced Resuscitation Training course prepares participants to provide first aid, CPR and oxygen therapy in complex workplace and community situations. Furthermore, this course follows Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and first aid codes of practice.

In addition, participants develop the skills and knowledge required to use and maintain specialised equipment for first aid, resuscitation and oxygen therapy. As a result, learners gain practical skills for responding to life-threatening emergencies until emergency services arrive.

What You Will Learn

  • Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
  • Perform CPR on adults and infants

  • Use oxygen therapy equipment safely
  • Insert appropriate basic airway adjuncts
  • Manage life-threatening bleeding

Advanced Emergency Response Skills

This Advanced Resuscitation Training course includes simulated real-life situations. Furthermore, these scenarios help participants build confidence using specialised emergency response equipment.

  • Perform adult CPR using an AED
  • Perform infant CPR
  • Provide oxygen to a casualty with life-threatening bleeding
  • Place a casualty into the recovery position
  • Maintain resuscitation equipment
  • Recognise psychological impacts after incidents
  • Seek support when required

As a result, participants can respond confidently until emergency services take over. In addition, they will understand how to maintain equipment, monitor casualties and communicate effectively throughout the emergency.

Successful participants receive nationally recognised certification for the following units. The certificate will be issued by Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909:

Course Delivery

We deliver this course in the workplace or at an Emcare WA Pty Ltd training facility. Alternatively, organisations can arrange private onsite training for their staff.

Course Duration

  • Online with face-to-face: Pre-course online learning plus a 3.5-hour practical assessment session
  • Face-to-face: 6 hours minimum

Likewise, blended delivery provides greater flexibility for busy workplaces.

Work Placement Arrangements

No work placement is required as part of this course.

Entry Requirements

  • Participants must have the physical capacity to perform two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.
  • Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other device with internet access to complete online or pre-course study.
  • This course has a prerequisite of HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid, which must be completed before undertaking this unit of competency.

Therefore, participants should ensure they are physically capable of completing every practical assessment before enrolling.

Assessment Requirements

Participants must complete both written and practical assessment tasks. Additionally, assessment activities take place during the face-to-face training session.

Throughout the assessment, participants demonstrate both practical skills and theoretical knowledge. Consequently, successful completion confirms competency across all learning outcomes.

Performance Tasks

  • Perform CPR on an adult, including the use of bag-valve-masks, oxygen equipment and an AED
  • Place the casualty into the recovery position
  • Perform CPR on an infant
  • Manage a casualty with a life-threatening bleed and provide oxygen
  • Complete an incident report
  • Maintain resuscitation equipment

Theory Assessment

The theory assessment includes multiple-choice questions. Students must complete all assessment questions.
