Course Set (Express) – HLTAID014 & HLTAID015 (Advanced First Aid & Advanced Resuscitation)

This HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid and HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy course is delivered through a blended learning format, combining convenient online study with practical face-to-face training.

Participants complete the theory, learning content, and relevant knowledge assessment online before attending an in-person practical skills session. During the face-to-face training, trainers reinforce key concepts, cover additional learning content and knowledge questions not included in the online component, and assess practical competency in realistic emergency scenarios.

Designed to build confidence and capability, this nationally recognised course uses practical, simulated real-life situations to develop the skills required to coordinate and manage emergency responses in workplace and community settings. Training is delivered in accordance with current Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines, relevant legislation, workplace procedures, and best-practice recommendations from Australia’s national clinical peak bodies.

Throughout the course, you will develop advanced first aid skills, including:

  • Coordinating and managing emergency incidents.
  • Performing advanced CPR and resuscitation techniques.
  • Providing oxygen therapy using specialised equipment.
  • Assessing and managing life-threatening medical emergencies.
  • Treating head, neck and spinal injuries.
  • Managing casualties experiencing shock.
  • Recognising and treating hypothermia and hyperthermia.
  • Controlling catastrophic bleeding using tourniquets and haemostatic dressings.
  • Maintaining and operating advanced first aid, resuscitation, and oxygen therapy equipment.
  • Providing effective care until emergency services arrive.

Practical training is conducted in realistic simulated environments, giving participants the opportunity to apply their knowledge, strengthen decision-making skills, and gain the confidence to respond effectively in complex emergency situations across a wide range of workplaces and community environments.

Advanced Emergency Response Skills

This course builds on basic first aid and CPR skills. Furthermore, it develops advanced response skills for high-risk workplace and community emergencies.

  • Recognise psychological impacts after emergencies
  • Seek support when required

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered in the workplace or at an Emcare WA Pty Ltd training facility.

Course Duration

  • Online with face-to-face: Pre-course online learning plus a 6.5 -hour practical assessment session
  • Face-to-face: 16.5 hours minimum

Entry Requirements

  • Present a valid photo ID (e.g. driver’s licence, passport, or student ID).
  • Be physically able to complete all practical assessments, including performing CPR on an adult manikin on the floor.*

LLND Requirements

Participants must demonstrate appropriate language, literacy, numeracy, and digital (LLND) skills to successfully complete training and assessment, including:

  • Reading and following emergency procedures and equipment instructions.
  • Communicating effectively during emergency situations.
  • Completing incident reports and assessment documentation.
  • Using basic numeracy for treatment times and oxygen therapy.
  • Accessing online learning and completing digital assessments.

Online Learning

This course is delivered through blended learning, combining online theory with face-to-face practical training.

Participants will need access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone with an internet connection to complete the online learning and theory assessment, which takes approximately 8 hours (self-paced). Practical training and assessment are then completed in person using realistic emergency scenarios and specialised equipment.

*Important: To achieve a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment, participants must successfully perform CPR on an adult manikin positioned on the floor. No exemptions apply.

Assessment Requirements

Participants must complete both written and practical assessment tasks. Additionally, practical scenarios are conducted during the face-to-face training session.

Performance Tasks

  • Online theory assessment: A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions.Face to face assessment* of performance tasks and practical scenarios: 
    • Simulated First Aid Scenario – Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of bag-valve-masks, oxygen equipment, an AED and placing the casualty into the recovery position )
    • Perform CPR on an infant
    • Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis
    • Manage a casualty with asthma
    • Manage a choking casualty
    • Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding requiring minor wound cleaning
    • Manage a casualty with a nosebleed
    • Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation
    • Manage a casualty with a sprain and strain
    • Manage a casualty with envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)
    • Coordinate a multiple casualty incident
    • Manage a casualty with life-threatening bleeding and shock and provide supplemental oxygen
    • Maintain resuscitation equipment
    • Complete two separate incident report forms

    *Additional learning and theory assessment will be conducted during the face to face session, not fully covered in the online learning content.
