The Warden, Chief Warden and Fire Extinguisher Training course combines PUAFER005, PUAFER006 and PUAFER008 into one practical workplace emergency response program. This course prepares participants to operate within an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO), lead emergency response procedures and safely confine small workplace emergencies.
In addition, the course combines online pre-course learning with a 90-minute face-to-face practical assessment session. As a result, participants gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience using real fire extinguishers and emergency response procedures.

What Does This Course Cover?
This course is suitable for people who may need to make decisions about occupant safety, give emergency instructions, lead evacuation procedures or use initial response equipment during small workplace emergencies.
Specifically, participants learn how to command, control and coordinate emergency response procedures while also developing practical fire extinguisher skills.
Emergency Control Organisation Roles
This training applies to members of an Emergency Control Organisation, including:
- Wardens
- Chief Wardens
- Deputy Chief Wardens
- Communications Officers
- Other ECO team members
In addition, participants may act as the primary liaison with emergency services during a facility emergency.
Fire Extinguisher Training and Small Emergencies
The fire extinguisher component gives participants the skills and knowledge required to confine small emergencies in a facility.
For example, small emergencies may include:
- Small fires that can be controlled using a fire extinguisher
- Chemical spills managed with facility PPE and spill kits
- Vehicle incidents where there is no significant injury or damage
Therefore, participants develop practical confidence in using initial response equipment before emergency services arrive.

Entry Requirements
Participants must have the physical capacity to complete the practical demonstrations for this course.
This includes wearing suitable identification, safely confining emergencies, using communication systems and using initial response equipment.
Pre-course and Online Study Requirements
Pre-course study: Students may be required to complete online pre-course work before attending the face-to-face session, depending on the course delivery mode.
Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic device with internet access to complete online or pre-course study.

Assessment Requirements
Assessments are conducted during the face-to-face training session and include practical tasks, documentation and theory assessment.
Performance Tasks
- Undertake pre-emergency planning
- Prepare and plan for an emergency
- Operate as part of an ECO in a fire emergency
- Lead an ECO in a fire emergency
- Manage a small chemical spill
- Put out a small paper or wood fire
Documentation
The student must complete the following documentation to the appropriate standard:
- Emergency equipment fault log
- Emergency evacuation incident and debrief form
- Facility emergency plan extract
- Incident report
Theory Assessment
The theory assessment includes multiple-choice and short-answer questions. Students must complete all assessment questions.

Training and assessment are delivered on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909.

Certification
Certificates are usually issued on the same day. However, they may also be issued the following day or on a Monday if training is completed on a Friday afternoon.
