HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
The Provide First Aid Course (HLTAID011) provides the practical skills and confidence to recognise emergencies and deliver immediate first aid until professional medical assistance arrives. Furthermore, the course follows Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines, workplace requirements and current Australian first aid standards.
Whether you require workplace certification or simply want to build your confidence, this nationally recognised course prepares you to respond effectively to a wide range of medical emergencies. As a result, you will gain practical skills that you can apply immediately at work, at home or within the community.
During this Provide First Aid Course, you will learn how to assess a casualty, make the scene safe, contact emergency services and provide life-saving first aid. In addition, you will perform CPR, operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), administer asthma medication and adrenaline auto-injectors, assist choking casualties and manage a variety of injuries and illnesses.
Throughout the course, you will also develop an understanding of basic anatomy and physiology, the differences between adult and infant CPR, the Chain of Survival, incident reporting procedures, recognising psychological impacts after emergencies and seeking assistance when required. Consequently, you will leave with the confidence to respond quickly and effectively when every second counts.

Course Delivery
This Provide First Aid Course can be completed at an Emcare WA Pty Ltd training facility or delivered onsite for workplaces and group bookings. Alternatively, eligible participants may complete online learning before attending the practical assessment.
Course Duration
- Online with face-to-face: Short pre-course online learning followed by a one-hour practical assessment session.
- Face-to-face: Minimum duration of 7.5 hours.
Work Placement Arrangements
No work placement is required for this course.
Assessment Requirements
Participants must successfully complete both practical and theory assessments. Additionally, every practical assessment uses realistic emergency scenarios that reflect workplace and community situations.
Practical Assessment
The assessor will observe participants completing the following practical tasks:
- Perform CPR on an adult using an AED and place the casualty into the recovery position
- Complete a First Aid Incident Report based on a simulated emergency
- Perform CPR on an infant
- Manage a casualty experiencing anaphylaxis
- Manage a casualty experiencing asthma
- Respond to a choking casualty
- Treat non-life-threatening bleeding and shock
- Manage a nosebleed
- Treat fractures and dislocations
- Manage sprains and strains
- Provide first aid for snake and funnel-web spider bites
Theory Assessment
Participants must successfully complete a written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions.
Entry Requirements
Participants must have the physical capability to perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor. Before attending your course, please ensure you can safely complete all practical activities.
