Manual Handling Training

HLTWHS005 – Conduct Manual Tasks Safely (Personal Care Workers)

This Manual Handling Training course has been developed for personal care workers, nurses and healthcare professionals who perform manual handling tasks as part of their daily duties. Furthermore, the course provides the knowledge and practical skills required to complete manual tasks safely while reducing the risk of workplace injuries.

Throughout this Manual Handling Training course, participants learn how to identify hazardous manual handling tasks, apply safe lifting and transferring techniques, and use correct body mechanics when moving clients or equipment. As a result, participants develop safer work practices that protect both themselves and the people in their care.

In addition, the course explains employer and employee responsibilities under workplace health and safety legislation, introduces the risk assessment process, and focuses on practical patient transfer techniques, including moving people safely between beds, chairs and other equipment. Consequently, participants can immediately apply these techniques in their everyday work.
